THE CREW

JON

With 1000's of sailing miles behind him Jon is never happier than when he is out on the water, the constant sunshine is just a bonus!

Jon started sailing as a child after helping his dad build a UFO 31 sail boat in a friend's garden. From that point onwards he was hooked and he went on to complete his Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper in 2 of the best sailing locations in the UK: The Solent and the West Coast of Scotland.

He spent many years sailing in the Irish Sea in his beloved Jaguar 27, including the Isle of Man, North Wales and Cumbria as well as taking part in club racing each week. He has also sailed in the Canaries, Gibraltar, the Greek Islands, the Florida Keys, the Balearics and Perth, Australia.

He is qualified as RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Sail) with commercial and STCW endorsements. He has also completed courses in Sea Survival, Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention, First Aid and Short Range Radio certificates.

Craving a warmer climate, in 2019 Jon sailed Ocean Whisper, his Sun Fast 37, from the UK to the sunny Costa Calida in south eastern Spain. Taking a few months and experiencing Northern France, the Bay of Biscay, the Atlantic Coast of Spain and Portugal, the Algarve, the Straits of Gibraltar and all the places in between.

Now based in the beautiful Marina de las Salinas in San Pedro del Pinatar, Jon offers day trips, skippered yacht charter, introductory sailing courses and longer mile building trips for others wishing to gain sailing experience and clock up miles towards their own Yachtmaster certificates.

KAREN

Karen is a big fan of sunshine and is never happier than when she is out in it. She has been sailing ever since a Greek flotilla holiday in 2008 and has clocked up 1000s of miles experience. She has sailed in the warmer climes of the Florida Keys and Perth, Australia as well as some of the wettest climates with many years experience sailing in the Irish Sea, North Wales and Cumbria.

Karen crewed on Ocean Whisper sailing from the Isle of Wight to San Pedro del Pinatar in south eastern Spain, crossing the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay and taking in the Atlantic Coast of Spain and Portugal, the Algarve, Cadiz, the Straits of Gibraltar and Mediterranean Spain.

You will find Karen crewing on board Ocean Whisper, serving your food and drinks and of course, soaking up the sun.

THE BOAT

JEANNEAU SUN FAST 37

Our yacht, OCEAN WHISPER, is a Jeanneau SUN FAST 37, the performance oriented version of the SUN ODYSSEY 37.

With her 11.4m LOA and her 3.7m beam she carries a large sail area which helps propel her through the water, even in the lightest winds. In heavy weather her 2.07m lead keel gives her additional stability for a smoother sail.

On deck, Ocean Whisper has a complete sail wardrobe including a fully battened main with lazy jacks and bag, a furling genoa, a spinnaker and a storm gib (mounted on removable stay). All lines are led aft to the cockpit including the three single reefing lines. The large cockpit is comfortable for short and long journeys and we have a spray hood fitted for longer passages. Should we have light winds the Yanmar 3YM30 engine will get us to our destination in comfort via the saildrive which is fitted with a two blade propeller. We carry a 16kg bow anchor and a 8kg kedge anchor ideal for anchoring under the stars.

Ocean Whisper is fully compliant with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Codes of Practice and is certificated for commercial use by the YDSA Certifying Authority. We provide a complete set of safety equipment which adhere to MCA and RYA regulations, including a deck mounted 8 man life raft with a hydrostatic release fitted, automatic life jackets fitted with lights and safety harnesses, safety lines, an EPIRB, gas and smoke detectors and a full set of spares. Our safety equipment is meticulously checked and renewed on a regular basis.

Below decks she has two large double aft cabins and forward there is a large double cabin. Each cabin is provided with it's own wardrobe, reading lights, electric socket, normal and emergency lighting, fire extinguisher and smoke detector.

There is a good size heads with sink, running hot and cold water and a shower. The saloon has a large seating area and table and the sofas can double up as extra berths if required. The deck hatches and windows fill the saloon with light.

The fully equipped galley has a double sink with running hot and cold water. A large top loading fridge/freezer and an oven and grill with 2 gas burners. The boat has 2 large water tanks holding 240 Litres of fresh water.

It is rarely needed in the sunny climes of Spain but the boat is also fitted with a heating system in each cabin and the saloon.
